Israel is unlikely to comply with a potential ICJ order to end its Rafah offensive as long as it maintains the backing of its biggest ally, the US, says Mohamad Elmasry of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
“Israel has shown for the past several months that it doesn’t care so much what international law says,” Elmasry told Al Jazeera. “It actually becomes more defiant when every one of these orders or resolutions is passed.
“I don’t think anything on the ground is going to change until the US puts its foot down and says enough is enough.”
