One of the greatest football players of all time, Argentina's famous football player Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60 due to cardiac arrest.

Earlier this month, he underwent an operation for clotting in the brain. This operation was successful.

It was reported that Maradona was also going to be treated for alcohol dependency (alcohol addiction).

Marodona first came into the limelight from the 1982 World Cup of Football. The World Cup was played in Spain but only 21-year-old Maradona emerged as Argentina's star player at that time.

Then in 1986, when Argentina won the Football World Cup, Maradona was the captain of that team.

He also played for renowned football clubs such as Barcelona and Napoli.

Maradona played 91 matches for Argentina in which he scored 34 goals. Not only that, he represented Argentina in four World Cups.

Maradona became a cocaine addict in the second half of his career. In 1991, he was found positive for the drugs test and was banned from the sport for 15 months.

Maradona retired from professional football in 1997 on his 37th birthday.

Maradona was named head coach of Argentina's football team in 2008. He stepped down in the year 2010 when Germany defeated Argentina's team in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

He was also in charge of teams from the UAE and Mexico.

His fans across the world are saddened by the news of Diego Maradona's sudden death. Fans from different countries, including India, are paying tribute to him in their own way.

Maradona's popularity can be gauged from the fact that there are a total of 10 trends associated with him in India after his death. For example - #Maradona, GOAT, Soccer, RestInPower, The Golden Boy and The Greatest.

Many Indian players, politicians and stars are also paying tribute to Maradona on social media.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote, "Legend Diego Maradona has left us. Maradona was the magician who showed us why football is called 'The Beautiful Game'. My condolences to his family, friends and fans. ''

CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury has posted two pictures of Maradona. In one of these, he is seen alongside Cuban revolutionary and former President Fidel Castro. In the second picture, he shows a tattoo of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara on his arm.
